Javad T. Hashmi is Director of Research & Strategic Communications at Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), CA, USA, and is currently a PhD candidate in the Study of Religion (Islamic Studies) at Harvard University.

Javad initially trained as a medical doctor and is a board-certified emergency physician. In addition to his medical training, Dr. Hashmi earned bachelors and masters degrees in Arabic & Islamic Studies from UC Berkeley and Harvard respectively. He also completed a Fellowship in Medical Ethics at Harvard Medical School and his doctoral research at Harvard focuses on the ethics of war & peace in the Quran and the wider Islamic tradition.  Javad believes that the public discourse on religion is currently dominated by extremist voices and that there is a dire need for public scholarship and engagement by academics and experts. In that vein, he has launched MPAC’s official YouTube show called The Impactful Scholar.
