Environmentalisms in Qur’anic Perspective: Creatures and Resources

31 October

We are delighted to welcome Professor Anna Gade, Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor of Environmental Studies and Associate Dean for Research & Education in the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, to lead a session of the Scripture and Ecology in Interfaith Contexts Series.

Here are the details of this fascinating session.

Topic: Environmentalisms in Qur’anic Perspective: Creatures and Resources

Abstract: Drawing on her book, Muslim Environmentalisms, Gade will discuss key points about the Qur’an and environmentalism in text and social context, such as the Qur’an’s ‘environmental verses’ and eschatological themes.  The focus on the presentation, however, will be on the intersection of themes in contemporary environmental ethics and Qur’anic messages, including understandings of the intrinsic value of natural resources as ontological ‘creatures’.
